The Library

The Hardt Foundation's main library.

The Hardt Foundation Library is a highly specialised research library in the field of Classical Antiquity. It holds nearly 50,000 volumes and around 100 journals, covering all the major fields of research in Classical studies.

Its collections include the works of Greek and Latin authors – from Homer to the Church Fathers – as well as commentaries, scholia and indices on these works. They also cover Greek and Roman history, ancient philosophy, epigraphy, numismatics, papyrology and archaeology.

The library is primarily intended for residents. However, it is open for on-site consultation to external researchers, by appointment, for academic or scientific purposes.

The Hardt Foundation’s collections can be found in the UNIGE Swisscovery catalogue. Requests for books not held by the Foundation can be made on behalf of our visiting guests and researchers whilst they are on site.

The Hardt Foundation Library does not offer a lending service.

The library publishes a monthly list of its new acquisitions.
