Research stays

Room 1

Every year, the Foundation hosts researchers in the field of Classical Studies for study visits lasting from one week to two months.

The Foundation fosters a research community. Shared meals and social life within the residence thus contribute to the exchange of ideas between researchers of different generations and nationalities.

Guests – a maximum of nine to eleven at the same time – are accommodated in rooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom. Full board is included in the cost of the stay. Travel costs are to be assumed by the guests.

Booking

Any researcher wishing to stay at the Foundation with the aim of advancing their research must be affiliated with a university where Classical Antiquity is taught. Research in any other field will result in your application being refused.

Guests may book a single room at a reduced rate until they reach the age of 35. This discount does not apply to other rooms.

Any room bookings made outside the context of a research stay, but in connection with a conference, seminar or private event, are charged at CHF 150 per night, including breakfast, subject to availability.

The Hardt Foundation for the Study of Classical Antiquity, wishing to promote the culture and civilisation of the Greco-Roman world, offers scholarships to young researchers, subject to application, providing funding for periods ranging from two to four weeks. Scholarships are not available for the months of July and August.

The disciplines covered are Greek and Latin language and literature, ancient history, ancient philosophy and ancient law. The aim of the research is to produce articles, books or other scholarly works.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants must be aged 35 or under at the time of application.
  • Doctoral students (in their second year or later) or postdoctoral researchers.

This program is funded with the support of a private Geneva-based foundation and other sponsors.
